Tapestry was painted in the summer of 1962 while I was attending the San Francisco Art Institute. As a student painter it shows the strong influence of the art school and the paintings of Clyfford Still and Jerry Hatofsky (one of my instructors). Echoes of this painting can be found in the more painterly paintings that were to follow thruout my career. It still looks good to me.
